As quirky as the name may have sounded, Tesco has mercifully decided to rename its PayQwiq app – it has now been dubbed Pay+.
I first covered this app back in August when they were offering 500 bonus Clubcard points for giving it a go.
A quick recap on the purpose of this app:
Essentially, PayQwiq is a way of simplifying the process at the Tesco checkout and saves you fishing for your Clubcard and payment card while trying not to hold up the whole shop behind you for 10 minutes. It allows you to add your debit/credit cards as well as your Clubcard.
You then simply scan the code shown within the app at the till, thereby paying and collecting Clubcard points in one swoop.
New incentive
Following the name change, Pay+ are running a new offer to persuade more people to use the app on a regular basis.
You will receive 1 additional Clubcard point for every £4 spent until 14th January 2018.
Remember that if converting to airline miles, 1 Clubcard point is worth:
- 2.5 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles
- 2.4 British Airways Avios
This offer applies to spend at Tesco and Tesco Petrol Filling Stations. Extra points can take up to 5 days to appear on your balance. Your regular Clubcard points balance will update within 24 hours as normal.
This will also double up with any other Clubcard promotions. If you have the Tesco Premium Credit Card, for example, you ordinarily would earn 1 Clubcard point per £1 spent at Tesco/Tesco filling stations.
However, if you were to link this card to the Pay+ app you would be earning an excellent 9 Clubcard points per £4 for the duration of the promotion:
1 Clubcard point per £1 for spending on the Premium Credit Card + ordinary 1 point per £1 for scanning your Clubcard + 1 promotional point per £4 spent = 9 Clubcard points per £4.

There is NO separate registration required for this offer, bonus points will be calculated and added automatically.
Verdict
File this under easy points. There is no reason not to use the Pay+ app at least for the duration of the promotion period to earn some extra points effortlessly. The fact that this promotion runs for more than three months and also includes the Christmas period is certainly a plus.
Now, all we need is a bonus points offer on Gift Cards to return…..
