Excellent British Airways promotion – cheap First Class tickets to Cape Town

Cape Town vista

Looking back at previous years, British Airways (BA) has traditionally launched a world sale at some point during mid to late June. It’s all been quiet on that front so far this year but this deal is definitely sale-worthy.

Cheap first class – if you can travel with a partner

It’s fair to say Cape Town is one of the more pricey BA holiday destinations. Their monopoly on the route means that they are able to set prices pretty much as they see fit.

Want to redeem Avios? Sounds good in theory but finding business class/first class availability on this route can be a bit like hen’s teeth. Unless you’re happy to book when seats are released 355 days before departure, you may struggle.

That makes this first class offer very good indeed.

On the Dream Tickets page of the BA website they are currently promoting the following companion offer:

And prices really are that good. I priced up a weeklong trip in February 2019:

How good is this deal?

If you’re looking for some justification/perspective/anything to explain to your partner why you’re shelling out £2,000 on flights, the BA Low Fare finder gives you an idea of how much first tickets normally cost outside of this promotion:

Per person

BA Bronze status in the bag + at least 30,000 Avios per person

A quick look at the BA Tier point calculator shows that this trip would be more than enough to earn you BA Bronze status. Bronze stauts requires 300 Tier Points – this trip would net you 480 Tier Points.

You’d also earn at least 60,000 Avios between the two of you.

Verdict

£2,000 per person for non-stop First class flights from London to Cape Town is a very good deal in my book.

Remember that it’s not unusual to see economy flights to Cape Town for £800-£1,000 at many points throughout the year. And business class can easily price at £3,500+ per person.
