Here are a few snippets of news that didn’t warrant an article of their own:
Virgin Atlantic opening a pub
Between them, Virgin Atlantic and Delta fly to more than 230 US destinations. To ‘celebrate’ they’re opening a pop-up pub in London called the Joint Venture.
They will supposedly be serving craft beers from each one of those 230 destinations.
Here are the details per the Virgin website:
Location
The Joint Venture Pub
The Old Crown Public House
33 New Oxford St, London WC1A 1BH
Opening hours
Sunday – Wednesday 12pm till 1am
Thursday – Saturday 12pm – 3am
The pub will be open from the 10th until 19th August 2018

Date for Marriott Rewards/SPG merger completion revealed
A bit of belated news, apologies – although there has been no subscriber email since this news broke last week…
We’ve covered the Marriott Rewards/SPG merger at length on Tricks of the Trade. Including:
- Full details of the new combined loyalty program
- How to use your points for cheap luxury hotel bookings between August and December 2018
- And an amazing chance to book some once-in-a-lifetime hotel stays for a fraction of their normal prices
We knew that Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest would become one at some point this month, but we didn’t know the exact date. Well, all has been revealed…
Saturday 18th August is the magic date to put in your diaries.
In theory, this is the date that all your Starwood points become Marriott points (at a 1:3 ratio) and all 6,500 Marriott hotels will become bookable with your (ex) Starwood points as well as other changes.
Now, you’ll want to be prepared here. Thousands of Marriott/Starwood members will be primed and ready to pounce as soon as the Marriott website goes live reflecting these changes.
If you plan to take advantage of the new cheap pricing, draw up a list of ‘target’ hotels and dates, especially if you’re trying to book hotels that will be super popular such as the St. Regis Maldives etc.
New Hyatt/Small Luxury Hotels of the World partnership announced
Well, I didn’t see this one coming.
One of the biggest problems for UK-based Hyatt members has always been their relatively small global presence.
In the last few days, they would appear to have finally taken steps to remedy that with the announcement of a new partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH).
SLH has more than 500 luxury hotels around the world, although it’s not immediately clear whether they will all be participating in this new link up.

It appears that World of Hyatt members will be able to earn and redeem their points at SLH hotels, which is excellent news.
The partnership is set to kick off before the end of the year and I’m sure more details will emerge in due course.
