Which hotel promotions are worth your attention for Q3/Q4 2018

Park-Hyatt-Bangkok

Welcome to our quarterly roundup of the various key hotel promotions for travel over the coming months.

Hilton Honors

Promotion name: Moments Made Bigger

What’s the offer? Earn triple base points at luxury and resort hotels. Plus earn double base points on every other stay.

Which hotels are considered luxury/resort properties? All Waldorf Astoria and Conrad hotels are considered luxury hotels. In addition, there are numerous other hotels that are considered ‘resorts’. View the entire list – all 245 properties – by clicking on this link.

Promotion dates: 10th September 2018 through 3rd January 2019

Registration required: Yes. Register via this link

Participating hotel brands: Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Curio Collection, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Canopy by Hilton, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Embassy Suites, DoubleTree by Hilton, Hilton Grand Vacations, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Home2 Suites, Hampton by Hilton, Tru by Hilton and Tapestry Collection by Hilton

Hampton by Hilton Hotels in Mainland China are excluded

Are pre-existing reservations eligible? Yes. As long as you have registered for the promotion prior to check-out, you’ll earn double/triple base points no matter when this stay was booked.

What can you expect to earn?

Non-luxury or non-resort example: A Hilton Diamond member staying for two nights at a Hampton with a rate of $100 per night would earn a total of 6,000 Hilton Honors Points.

Luxury or resort example: A Diamond member staying for two nights at a resort property with a rate of $100 per night would earn a total of 8,000 Hilton Honors Points.

IHG Rewards Club

Promotion name: Double Points plus more

What’s the offer? For the last few years, IHG Rewards Club has been running personalised promotions known as Accelerate. I wrote a detailed piece explaining the Accelerate promotion back in August 2017. Accelerate now seems to have been watered down somewhat.

IHG is offering everyone double points (up to 15,000 points) plus a number of other challenges that will allow them to net further points.

Based on comments online and my own challenge, it seems the challenges being offered are either very poor or enormously generous, with not a huge amount in between.

I wrote about my disappointing ‘Double Points plus more’ offer in more detail last week.

Promotion dates: 16th September to 16th December 2018 (inclusive).

Registration required: Yes. Register via this link

Participating hotel brands: InterContinental®, Crowne Plaza®, Hotel Indigo®, Holiday Inn®, Holiday Inn Express®, Staybridge Suites®, Candlewood Suites®, Kimpton®, EVEN® or HUALUXE® hotels worldwide

Are Reward (points) stays eligible for this promotion? No. Reward nights do not count as a qualifying stay in terms of hitting your double points/personalised targets.

Marriott Rewards

EDIT: As Murphy’s Law would have it, after publishing this article and flagging the lack of an offer from Marriott, they have in fact launched a new global promotion within the last few hours! I have now added details of Marriott’s new MegaBonus offer below.

Promotion name: MegaBonus in More Places

What’s the offer? Earn up to 3,000 points per stay.

Promotion dates: Stay two or more nights between 26th September 2018 to 31st January 2019

Registration required: Yes. Register by 7th January 2019 via this link

Participating hotel brands: All 29 Marriott brands are participating in this offer.

It would seem that dealing with the ongoing issues that persist following the integration with Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) means that Marriott has yet to launch a major Q3/4 offer.

LeClub AccorHotels

Promotion name: The Rewards Days

What’s the offer? Earn up to 6,000 points (worth 120 EUR) after three stays.

Your first stay (minimum two nights) = 500 Rewards points

Your second stay (minimum two nights) = 2,500 Rewards points

Your third stay (minimum two nights) = 3,000 Rewards points

Promotion dates: Stay between 18th September 2018 to 14th January 2019

Registration required: Yes. Register and book by 7th October 2018 via this link

Participating hotel brands: All hotels that participate in the LeClub AccorHotels loyalty programme are considered eligible properties under this offer.

Do Reward (points) stays count towards this promotion? No.

World of Hyatt

Promotion name: More Points

What’s the offer? Stay at any Hyatt hotel and earn up to 60,000 Bonus Points. That’s enough for 2 free nights at any Hyatt hotel in the world or 12 free nights at more than 180 Hyatt hotels.

Promotion dates: Stay between 1st September 2018 to 30th November 2018

Registration required: Yes. Register by 15th October 2018 via this link

Participating hotel brands: Hyatt hotels and resorts or participating M Life Resort Destinations in Las Vegas.

Do Reward (points) stays count towards this promotion? Yes

Verdict

If you received a better IHG offer than I did (and there are better versions around – check by registering for the offer here) then that may well be where you direct your hotel stays for the next few months.

The Hyatt promo requires too many nights before it becomes interesting and the fact that it ends at the end of November, prior to the Christmas/New Year travel period, is slightly disappointing.

If you have some work travel coming up over the next few months, the AccorHotels offer is definitely one to bear in mind.

The Hilton offer is a good one and the bonus points can rack up quickly on more expensive stays. Triple points i.e. earning at least 20 Hilton Honors points per $1 should certainly soften the blow of a pricey holiday over the festive season for example.

Either way, I always recommend taking a couple of minutes to register now for all of the offers. That way, you’ll never run the risk of missing out on bonus points for an unexpected hotel stay because you forget to register before staying.

What do you make of these offers?
