Landing at the wrong airport isn’t that uncommon

A couple of weeks ago two American Airlines pilots made a big, big mistake when they and their Airbus A320 were making their landing approach into Page Field near Fort Myers, FL. That’s when an Air Traffic Controller came over the radio to inform them that the airport at which they were supposed to land – Southwest Florida International Airport – was about 7.5 miles to the southeast.

Such errors are surprisingly easy to make. That explains why hundreds of them involving professional pilots have happened over the ninety years since commercial flight began.

Here’s a look at some of the more, um, interesting wrong airport landings (or near-landings).

Norwegian cuts the only budget London-Singapore flight

The only budget flights between London and Singapore will end in January when Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA scraps the long-haul route little more than a year after it started.

The last flight to London will leave Singapore on Jan. 11, according to Norwegian’s customer booking line. The airline’s website shows no flights on the route beyond that month.
