2018 has certainly been a year for generous Iberia Plus Avios promotions.

First, we had the madness of the ‘90,000 Avios for £220’ offer in June and now they’re back with an albeit less generous but nonetheless potentially lucrative offer on car rentals.

Iberia is offering 9,000 Avios on your next Avis car rental. 

Here are the key requirements:

• You must rent a Group C car or higher
• Rental must be 3 days or more
• Reservations must include a Saturday night

While this offer is excellent if you had plans to rent a car anyway, but if you live/are travelling somewhere that offers cheap Avis rentals, this deal could earn you some very cheap Avios too.

Here’s an example I found for Faro, Portugal on a random weekend in November:

£20 for 9,000 Avios – I make that a cost of just 0.22p per Avios!

How to book

Rentals must be booked at iberia.com, rentacar-iberia.com, avis.es or through the Avis Call Center.

You should know:

• Valid for all participating rental locations in the following European countries: continental Spain, the Balearic and Canary Islands, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
• Rentals must include the Iberia Plus member number of the first named driver (the “renter”). I.e. you must credit this rental to Iberia rather than British Airways Executive Club for example.
• This Avios bonus is not valid on corporate AWD rentals, Prestige rentals, Chauffeur Drive or Van worldwide.
• Offer not combinable with other promotions or other offers. Concurrent rentals or at the same time will not be valid and in these circumstances only Avios will apply the first rental to be completed.

The promotional page states Avios may take up to 8 weeks to arrive.

Verdict

Back in December 2016, I did take advantage of a similar Avios promo by renting a car I didn’t need for three days. On that occasion, Iberia were offering 18,000 Avios per rental. A £60 outlay for 18,000 Avios was pretty good by my reckoning.

9,000 Avios is obviously only half as good, but if you need to rent a car between now and mid December, or can locate a similarly cheap rental as the one I’ve highlighted, this offer is one for you.
