Amex Shop Small returns
It’s back!
Some of you may have already received emails from Amex about Shop Small but I’ve held off covering this until Amex put out something more widespread. On Monday, this banner was showing for many Amex customers within online accounts:
What is Amex Shop Small?
Shop Small is a campaign that aims to provide you with an incentive to shop at smaller, local businesses.
The basics of Shop Small are really straightforward.
Spend £10+ at a participating small business and you’ll receive a £5 statement credit back on your card.
There’s no limit to the total number of £5 credits that you can receive during Shop Small although a credit will only be awarded once per card, per retailer.
Small Business Saturday traditionally kicks off Shop Small and this year it takes place on 1st December 2018.
Shop Small runs from 1st-16th December 2018.

New Marriott game with free points/hotel stays up for grabs
Marriott Rewards has launched a new sweepstakes game called 29 Ways to Stay. It looks great, but all may not be as it seems.
This game has been launched as part of their MegaBonus winter promotion (explained here) and a nod to the ‘newly joined’ SPG and Marriott programs which now incorporate a whopping 29 brands.
What can you win?
Each time you play the game you will gain an entry into the draw for the grand prize (details below).
There are also daily instant win prizes available:

- Free 4-night stays at each of the 29 brands (i.e. you can win a 4-night stay at any St. Regis property).
- 75,000 prizes of 50 Marriott points
- 5,000 prizes of 500 Marriott points
- 2,500 prizes of 1,000 Marriott points
- 500 prizes of 2,000 Marriott points
- 250 prizes of 3,000 Marriott points
- 100 prizes of 4,000 Marriott points
- 75 prizes of 5,000 Marriott points
- 50 prizes of 10,000 Marriott points
- 16 prizes of 20,000 Marriott points
I played and won…….50 points.
The Grand Prize
The Grand Prize consists of twenty-nine (yes that’s 29!) 2-night stays, one at each of the 29 Marriott Brands for the winner and one guest.
Stays include 2-night hotel accommodations at each of the 29 Marriott Brands for one standard room.
Transportation to/from each stay is not included with the Grand Prize.
How often can you win?
This is proving slightly controversial, with many Marriott Rewards members suggesting that the way this competition has been promoted/set up implies that it’s possible to win one of the instant daily prizes on every day that you enter.
However, the anecdotal evidence thus far suggests that once you have won once, you cannot win again – although you do receive an additional entry into the grand prize draw.
