While the sale runs until the 31st January 2019, availability on key routes and dates is likely to thin out so I wouldn’t hang around.

How to book
The official Virgin Atlantic sale page is here.
There are some fairly lengthy advance purchase requirements that apply to certain destinations, particularly flights to the US. These vary by cabin:
Economy
All US departing London and Manchester – 28 days advance purchase required (excluding Manchester to Orlando with an advance purchase of 50 days).
All flights to other destinations, there is no advance purchase required (excluding London to Johannesburg with a 7 day advance purchase).
Premium Economy
All US departing London and Manchester – 28 days advance purchase required;
All flights to other destinations, there is no advance purchase required.
Upper Class
All US departing London and Manchester – 90 days advance purchase required;
All flights to other destinations, there is no advance purchase required (excluding London to Johannesburg with a 14 day advance purchase).
In true Virgin sale fashion, there’s also a myriad of different ‘travel between’ dates. There are far too many combinations to list here – you can see a full list on this page.

Verdict
After comparing pricing to last year’s winter sale it looks like the strongest deals are the economy/premium economy ones. Los Angeles or San Fransisco at under £300 both look very appealing. Shanghai at £715 in premium economy also stands out as particularly strong – especially if you can then upgrade with Avios to Club World.
I’m surprised at the lack of decent Upper Class sale offers to be honest. Almost across the board, there seems to have been a hefty hike in pricing over last year. The standout offer is Johannesburg at £1,799 which looks an excellent deal if you can find suitable dates.
